Exi-education: A Revolutionary Initiative for Special Education Children in Rural India Have you ever wondered how special education children in rural areas cope with their learning challenges? Do they have access to the resources and support they need to thrive and grow? Well, the answer is not very encouraging. According to a report by UNESCO, India has about 78 million children with disabilities, but only 1% of them have access to education. And the situation is even worse in rural areas, where there is a lack of awareness, infrastructure, and trained teachers. But there is hope. A remarkable initiative called Exi-education is changing the lives of special education children and their families in rural Bihar. Exi-education is a platform that offers various learning guides including bioinformatics modules developed by Trisha and researchers based in the USA. The platform offers various learning and up-skilling tools for both the special needs children and the teachers. The educational modules are designed with the latest research and best practices in mind and are tailored to suit the needs and abilities of each child. Exi-education has partnered with KCS Foundation, a non-profit organization that works for the empowerment of rural communities in places like Bihar. Together, they have launched a project to bring Exi- education to the public schools in rural areas that do not have special educators. KCS Foundation has reached out to various schools and offered the services of Exi-education to serve the needs of special children and their parents. They have also set up computer labs and internet facilities in these schools to enable online learning. But that's not all. Trisha is closely working with the NGO to train selected volunteers who will liaise with government schools, identify the children with special needs and guide them through the learning modules offered through Exi-education. This will further increase the reach and impact of this collaborative effort of Trisha's Exi-education and KCS Foundation. Speaking to the center coordinators of KCS Foundation, both Trisha (Founder of Exi-education) and Mr. Pankaj Jha (Founder of KCS Foundation) expressed their determination to use this project to serve every special needs child and their parents, and also to create wider awareness around this topic. They said that they hope that this project will inspire more people to join hands in making special education more inclusive and accessible to all. Trisha has received the youth empowerment and service award in recognition of outstanding community service on World literacy day, 8th of September 2023 and has been recognized by Consulate General of India through KCS foundation. |
